Overall the Giants lost but that is not what matters. I think we got some good looks at some guys but no one player really impressed me.
Saquon Barkley had a nice 39-yard first carry. Offensive Line not playing well. Only 4 yards on next 3 attempts but the offensive line didn’t help him out.
Leonard Johnson played pretty well at DB. Had two of the four Giants’ pass deflections. However, he did let up long fourth quarter touchdown to Calloway.
Kyle Lauletta played well with a stat line of 7/12 for 55 yards.
Front 7 defended the run game well. The linebackers and defensive line played pretty well overall. They only allowed 50 rushing yards.
Jalen Simmons running the ball pretty well. Fighting for a roster spot. He scored the only touchdown of the game for the Giants and had 38 yards on 7 attempts.
Robert Martin, out of Rutgers, is running the ball pretty well. Right now is running back 4 and might keep that job or move up. He had 5 carries for 49 yards.
Kerry Wynn and Avery Moss played well on Defensive Line.
Calvin Munson looking good at LB.
Andrew Adams was a good tackler playing pretty well at safety.
Robert Thomas had the only sack of the game and played pretty well on D-Line.
Riley Dixon played pretty well as punter. He averaged 44.2 yards per attempt.
The Giants were disciplined meaning that they did not turn the ball over and only lost 33 yards on 4 penalties.
In the Middle
Eli Manning was 4/7 for 26 yards. This really doesn’t mean much because he wasn’t throwing to our best talent. He is obviously the starter for the Giants.
Offensive Line has had its spurts but are not looking that great but also are not looking bad.
Not much to say about the receivers. The ball was spread a lot and none of the starting 3 (Odell, Shepard, and Cody Latimer) got the ball.
S William Gay, CB Donte Deayon, and S Curtis Riley not playing with injuries. Gay and Riley are in the running for starting free safety and have both taken first team snaps. Deayon is in the nickel cornerback mix. They definitely could have helped the secondary out today.
Davis Webb throwing all over the place. A lot of his throws were high.He settled down for a little bit at the end of the second quarter. Not a strong outing from him. He was 9/22 for 70 yards.
Jonathan Stewart and Wayne Gallman got nothing going running the ball.
DBs not looking that great. They got burnt a lot and Mayfield/Taylor ripped them apart. These were mostly backups and some of the better backups were hurt as well. Hopefully, this aspect of the game improves for the Giants.
Starting defensive backs also got ripped by Taylor and did not cause an incompletion. Taylor went 5/5 fro 99 yards and a touchdown. He also had a perfect 158.3 passer rating. I expected more out of the starting group.
Linebackers also need to do better in the pass coverage.
Back up O-Line looked pretty bad.
I think this team has a lot of talent and if everyone gels and a few players step up then the team could be very good. That saying, the Giants have a lot to improve on going into the next game.
